Confirmation & Membership
At Christ Church Detroit, there are several ways for you to become a member and to renew your faith. These include the liturgical rites of Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation.
Confirmation
If you have already been baptized, Confirmation is the Christian ritual in which we profess our mature faith in Christ and publicly commit to living out that faith. In this sacrament, candidates for Confirmation receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by our bishop.
Reception
If you’ve been shaped within a different Christian tradition and you’ve made an adult profession of faith in that, you can be received into the Episcopal Church by our bishop. We call this Reception, and it takes place in the worship at the same time as Confirmation with the bishop.
Reaffirmation
If you feel called to renew your faith as an adult, but have already been baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal Church (or any church that’s a part of the Anglican Communion), you can reaffirm your Baptismal Covenant in the presence of our bishop during worship. This takes place at the same point in the service as Confirmation and Reception.
Our priest will be happy to talk with you about each of these rituals, what they represent in your own spiritual journey, and answer any questions or concerns you may have. Please call the office at 313.259.6688 to make an appointment.
