Hospitality & Outreach
Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that,
some have entertained angels without knowing it.
– Hebrews 13:2
Breakfast Teams
Breakfast Teams serve hearty meals at about 8:45 a.m. each Sunday during the program year, arriving at about 7:30 a.m. to prepare scrambled eggs, sausage, and their own specialties. Not everyone needs to be a cook! There are roles for grocery shopping, setting up, and cleaning up, too. Each team serves about one Sunday per month.
Coffee Hour
Coffee Hour after the 10:30 a.m. service is an important and joyful part of our Sunday morning ritual. It is a time for parishioners, visitors, and potential members to connect in an informal atmosphere. All are invited to sign up to bring treats on a given Sunday, and it can be meaningful to do so in honor of a special occasion in one’s life. Volunteering for Coffee Hour is a fun way to meet people and learn your way around the kitchen!
Picnic Committee
This team facilitates the logistics for the annual parish picnic & outdoor Eucharist at Belle Isle each August. This beloved event feels like a family reunion!
Outreach Committee
The Outreach Committee coordinates and increases the church’s opportunities to serve its neighbors, largely through providing food and other basic means. It sponsors a Shelter Week, runs an Advent Diaper Drive, facilitates regular volunteer outings at Gleaners Food Bank and the Pope Francis Center, and supports the Bag Lunch Program. The Committee meets on Zoom a few times per year.
Bag Lunch Program
The Bag Lunch Program provides a nutritious lunch to any neighbors in need every Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Volunteers shop for groceries, make the sandwiches, pack the bags, greet and serve our neighbors, and clean the kitchen. It is an accessible volunteer opportunity for students, families, and any member of the community, not just the church.
Pride Group
This team looks for ways to connect with, support, and celebrate members of the LGBTQ+ community, including coordinating the church’s presence at the Motor City Pride festival each June.
