Stewardship of Gifts
Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others,
as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

– 1 Peter 4:10

Buildings & Grounds

The Buildings & Grounds Committee oversees the maintenance and condition of the church’s property. Its members collaborate with church staff and vendors to facilitate repairs, and volunteer their own time and skill on many projects, including landscaping, carpentry, painting, wiring, cleaning, and more. The Committee meets on Zoom one evening per month.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee assists the Vestry in managing the financial resources of the church by reviewing statements and reports, overseeing receipts and disbursements, preparing and revising proposed budgets, monitoring cash needs, endowments, and special purpose funds, and arranging for the investment of general and capital funds. The Committee generally meets on Zoom one evening per month, and handles special projects as needed.

Vestry

The Vestry is the governing council of the parish, and it is charged with the temporal affairs (e.g., money and buildings) of our congregational life. It is comprised of twelve members, serving staggered three-year terms. It typically meets on the fourth Thursdays of the month, with Zoom options available, and takes an annual daylong retreat. Meetings begin with dinner and Bible study.

Stewardship Committee

The Stewardship Committee encourages all members to practice generosity by giving their time, talents, and treasures to the congregation. The Committee leads the annual campaign in the fall to help the Finance Committee and Vestry prepare a responsible budget for the coming year. Committee members speak about what they value at Christ Church and invite others to share, and coordinate social dinners for members to get to know one another.

Welcome Committee

Members of the Welcome Committee connect with visitors, newcomers, and seasoned parishioners alike by greeting on Sunday mornings, coordinating name tags, hosting social gatherings, facilitating Inquirers’ courses, and more. If you love to meet people and help make connections, and especially if you feel new-ish yourself, this is a great ministry for you!

Beacon Legacy Circle

The Beacon Legacy Circle includes anyone who informs the church of a pending bequest from their estate to the church, or who has given a bequest in the past, to celebrate those who leave as their legacy a strong church that honors the life-giving Gospel of Jesus Christ for generations into the future and to encourage others to do the same.

Office Volunteers

Office volunteers support staff and clergy by assisting with mailings, memorials and gifts, organizing spaces, preparing for Sunday activities, and other small efforts that can make a big difference. The tasks are light, and done during office hours, Monday through Friday.

Counters

The counters meet in the church office once per week to count the money received during the previous week. Offerings include pledge payments, flower dedications, memorial gifts, fundraising contributions, checks from community groups, and more. Each session is brief. The work requires precision and discretion, and at least two people work together at the same time. These processes protect the financial integrity of the church.

Diocesan Representatives

Members of Christ Church Detroit represent the parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Michigan, the network of Episcopal congregations in southeast Michigan. They serve as youth representatives, chancellors (church attorneys), project leaders, convention delegates, and committee members in our wider church community.
